A Disney actor has apologised for taking a loaded gun through airport security at Los Angeles airport.
David Henrie, who starred in Wizards Of Waverly Place with Selena Gomez, said he had “unintentionally” brought the legally owned weapon with him, and admitted he was “embarrassed”.
His apology came after TMZ published pictures of him appearing to be detained and in handcuffs at the airport in California.
TMZ said the gun was a 9mm pistol.
In a statement on Twitter, Henrie said: “I take responsibility for the situation at LAX today.
“I unintentionally brought my legally owned gun, which is registered in my name, to the airport.
“I am so so sorry for any trouble it caused.”
The actor added his appreciation for the “safety laws in place to protect our beautiful country” and thanked police and airport staff for their kindness and professionalism.
He said: “More than anything I am humiliated and embarrassed that this even happened.”
Los Angeles airport police responded on Twitter, saying: “It’s unfortunate you had to meet our officers under these circumstances but we appreciate your professionalism and thanking the police officers for doing their jobs not something we hear a lot of lately.
“Safe travels & God Bless.”
As well as his Disney show, Henrie is known for playing the son in How I Met Your Mother.
