Actor Craig McLachlan has been charged with assault and sex offences, according to reports.
The actor, who had prominent roles in soaps Neighbours and Home And Away, is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 February, according to Sky News Australia.
Victoria Police told Sky News UK: “Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team have charged a 53-year-old New South Wales man on one count of common law assault, eight counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.”
McLachlan’s spokesperson has told Sky News Australia that the actor is innocent and will be vigorously defending the charges.
McLachlan will need to travel from his home state of New South Wales for his court appearance.
The Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC) reported that the charges coincide with his time working on the Rocky Horror Show musical in Melbourne in 2014.
The actor’s career began in 1987 when he was cast as the brother of Kylie Minogue’s character, Charlene, in Neighbours.
He has also played Danny Zuko in a West End production of Grease and had a few hit pop songs in the 1990s.
