A section of one of Britain’s busiest motorways was shut for around 10 hours earlier today after a serious crash involving a jackknifed lorry and two cars in Surrey.
Motorists were stuck in long tailbacks of several miles after the M25 collision just before 5am on the clockwise section between junction nine for Leatherhead and junction 10 for Wisley.
The lorry driver suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
The people in the two cars – a black cab and a red Citroen – were unhurt.
Police said part of the motorway was shut as emergency services cleared a large diesel fuel spillage.
The M25 section was reopened shortly before 3pm but one lane on the clockwise side remained closed while Highways England carried out repairs.
Officers from Surrey Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage before the collision, to get in touch.
